Dr Whitbread tackles problems that require optimal outcomes in the presence of uncertainty. These are often called "wicked", complex or complicated problems. Such problems occur not only in research, but in business capability planning and capacity planning and they tend to be ongoing. Commonly, the methodology includes mathematical or numeric evidence-based analysis, and the building of an executable model (simulation) to capture knowledge that can be re-used to generate new courses of action as an environment changes.
