Spark's mission is to create life-changing apprenticeships to youth in underserved communities across the United States. Spark Philadelphia created more than 160 transformative apprenticeships in 2013 and 2014 as Spark's first east coast site. The program is currently based at five schools in North and West Philadelphia. With support from local companies, organizations, and institutions, Spark Philadelphia aims to prepare students for success in high school and reduce the city's dropout rate.Primary Role and Responsibilities include:Managing 3 school partnerships to ensure the successful implementation of the Spark program;Developing and maintaining a strong system of communication and support with school staff to ensure their successful management of program operations and implementation of weekly leadership class.Cultivating motivational relationships with each student throughout the Spark cycle, including student enrollment, matching, apprenticeships, and celebration.Leading matching and engagement efforts for placement of students with mentors throughout the city aligned with student skills and desires, transportation safety, and volunteer strengths and availability. Ensuring quality apprenticeship experiences through regular assessments, including frequent site visits. Maintaining regular communication with volunteers to ensure high-quality volunteer experiences, provide coaching as needed, and document support and coaching efforts in Spark’s database.

The cyMentor program gives high school seniors the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with community members, corporate sponsors and alumni of both City Year and their respective high schools through weekly e-mails and monthly events in order to prepare them for college.Managed 30 plus pairs of mentors and mentees in the cyMentor program. Planned monthly college readiness events.Created and implemented college readiness and post secondary course curricula.Facilitated and assisted weekly college readiness class sessions including lessons on the college application process, scholarships and financial aid, and academic planning.

Provided an enriching learning experience for Philadelphia's youth through tutoring (literacy, math), coaching (attendance, social emotional development) and mentoring (life skills). Served as an External Engagement Coordinator to bring visitors into a West Philadelphia middle school to learn more about City Year's service. Served as the primary point for community outreach and community and corporate donations for the school's City Year team's service and events. Planned events and submitted event proposals (managed portfolio teams for events).
