I started my career in high school when I was the editor of my student newspaper, The Eagle Eye. I loved laboring over a lead, belaboring a beat, or hunting down a good headline. But it was the stories that sold me on journalism. Then in college, public relations taught me how to sell them. Stories sell because they connect people instantly by increasing empathy, curating a greater understanding than any other medium, and instilling excitement. All customers/students connect to stories, especially when they see themselves in the lead character as someone they relate to.I’m a strategic story seller. I sell the stories about our community in a strategic way that can increase the knowledge, safety and opportunities for a whole family. Connecting the right story to the right audience is what I strive to do most. Developing a Communications Plan in advance of your needs allows for better messaging, which builds into a stronger plan. My top Gallup Strength is Strategic, so my first stop is to develop a strategy. What’s next? Carrying out the plan that tells the story best. And then using the right data to examine what worked, and do more of that. The pandemic taught me that I work best with jazz music, coffee, my dog and a croissant, but it also taught me that I’m persistent, patient, and positive. And that’s my story.
