Interacted daily with those battling homelessness and substance abuse. My role was to provide a safe setting for those battling substance abuse and homelessness. Specifically for those who were inebriated, to get sober and sleep so they do not end up in the local hospitals or jails. In addition, my role was to provide resources for clients to gain admittance into various housing programs in the Seattle area, and resources to participate in detox and a residential treatment program.

My role as an EMT-B at AMR included: - Emergency Medical Technician, Basic-level care to the greater Seattle area. - Interprofessional collaboration with the Seattle Police, and Fire Department to provide medical attention and transport to those in need. - Interactions with various people from all types of backgrounds.

My role as a Research Student included:- Crossing different lines of Drosophila males with mutant and control females.- Collecting the eggs and separating the males and females to prevent age discrepancies. - Using a vile and vortex to knock out the flies and count how long it took each line to wake up.- Recorded data in a lab journal and then uploaded data to Microsoft Excel. - Learned how to upload data in the R program and run statistical analyses. This research focused on mitochondrial mutations involving an electron transport chain protein complex defect. The flies that woke up sooner were able to replenish ATP stores sooner. We were searching for a gene to rescue the phenotype in the mutant females, by crossing different lines of male drosophila with mutant female flies. Show less
