In addition to managing a million dollar portfolio of business, I co-lead a team of 8 Innovation Strategists. My role in co-leading this team is in surfacing best practices from team members and facilitating the sharing and adoption of those best practices through the development and implementation of new business processes and norms.

I coach large organizations in designing and implementing scalable innovation programs. Business outcomes include increased employee or citizen engagement, process improvement, product development, enhanced collaboration, social change and the furthering of business solutions for environmental sustainability. My client portfolio includes IKEA, United Way Worldwide, Vestas Wind Systems, Oxford, Cambridge and New York UniversitiesI deliver custom tailored interactive workshops on innovation planning and management, as well as workshops on practical skills, mindset, and methods for generating new ideas and making those ideas a reality. I have delivered innovation workshops for the University of Cambridge, United Way Central Maryland, the Credit Union of Colorado, and the Western Australia Police Force. IdeaScale is the largest cloud-based innovation management software in the world. Organizations use this crowdsourcing software to engage large groups of people in developing solutions to organizational challenges.

How can we mobilize individuals and society to shift behaviors in order to address climate change?As a volunteer Contest Fellow, I designed and delivered a global contest soliciting proposals on how to promote the adoption of more climate-friendly behaviors, lifestyles, and action. I crafted the contest description, along with parameters, constraints, and resources. I worked with Climate CoLab advisers to recruit expert judges. I then orchestrated screening and evaluation of proposals through the semi-finalist and finalist rounds. This contest solicited the greatest number of proposals across the entire Climate CoLab 2016 program and resulted in 6 finalists.

I served as NOAA Sea Grant Knauss Fellow in the office of Congressman Sam Far, leading champion for the ocean in the House of Representatives and is the founder and co-chair of the House Ocean Caucus. I developed and implemented strategic pathways for advancing the Congressman’s ocean conservation and marine science priorities, including marine debris reduction, growing the ocean economy, supporting technology innovation, advancing ocean science and exploration, and mitigating and adapting to global climate change and ocean acidification. Managed the activities of the bipartisan House Ocean Caucus to build awareness around ocean policy issues: • Planned 9 large-scale public outreach events and 4 roundtable policy discussions• Audiences and participants included congressional staff, agency staff, industry professionals, high profile individuals in the public and private sectors. Communicated strategically to defend and promote the Congressman’s ocean policy objectives: • Briefed the Congressman regularly• Drafted talking points and memos to support the Congressman’s speeches and meetings• Drafted 17 official letters to Presidential cabinet members, the Counselor to the President, members of congress, and other state and federal officials.Sampling of policy outcomes: • Removed 3 harmful riders from 3 appropriation bills• Brought positive attention to ocean issues by appropriate Presidential cabinet members• Secured an amendment to increase funding for priority programs by $3.646 million• Drafted and introduced a bipartisan bill in the 113th Congress.

MISSIONto create partnerships between visual artists and scientists centered on producing an exhibition that shares ocean science with the public in an engaging and intuitive manner, while simultaneously promoting discussion and creative thinking.ACCOMPLISHMENTS• Forged partnerships with the Museum of Science, Boston and the New Bedford Art Museum to exhibit the artwork at each museum for 4 months each in 2013 and 2014, respectively. • Directed the concept, design, and production of the Synergy Exhibit collaborative program culminating in the realization of Ocean Stories, an exhibition comprised of sculpture, painting, photography, poetry, and video. • Directed the production of 3 exhibitions of Ocean Stories, 5 events, and 8 videos for on-site and online platforms reaching an estimated 500,000 people. • Managed budget, press, content development, exhibit design, and website design: synergyexhibit.net• Secured funding:o $30,000 in grants from MIT and WHOIo $40,000 investment from the Museum of Science, Boston toward design and installationo $20,000 investment from the New Bedford Art Museum toward design and installation.• Presented as invited speaker on 5 occasions to audiences of 50-200 people at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative, UMass Dartmouth, WHOI, and the Museum of Science. • Delivered 2 interviews on National Public Radio.

I studied the impacts of climate change and ocean acidification on coral reefs. My study sites were the Red Sea, Puerto Rico and Florida. SCUBA diving and snorkeling in these areas resulted in many memorable adventures!Specifically, I investigated the sensitivity of coral growth rates to changes in environmental conditions. I designed and managed a collaborative research program involving scientists in 4 oceanographic disciplines and from 2 institutions. I secured $15,296 to fund my thesis field work. I participated in 4 oceanographic research cruises. I planned and orchestrated 6 expeditions to field sites in Saudi Arabia, Puerto Rico and Florida, during which I recruited and trained assistants and directed field operations.

MIT is a place to hatch new ideas. It offers a powerful combination of inspiration and resources to pursue one's ambitions. MIT and WHOI supported me in founding the Broader Impacts Group, a student organization centered on connecting graduate students with opportunities to hone their skills in science communication. Some courses and programs that I found most enriching include: Global Environmental Science and Politics Fundamentals of Science and Technology Public Policy-Making Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate Dynamics Graduate Student Teaching Certificate Program.

Guided graduate students in integrating new learning in aquatic chemistry with their previous understanding and knowledge in chemistry. Conducted weekly review sessions of material taught in graduate level course in aquatic chemistry. Reviewed problem sets, assigned grades and gave constructive feedback.

Received training from communications professionals on best practices and strategies for interpreting climate change and ocean science for general audiences in informal learning centers nation-wide.Served as scientific representative to ensure scientific underpinning in the development of a national strategy for interpreting climate change and ocean science for general audiences.

Identified leading scientists developing cutting-edge research and evaluated their potential to capture the attention and imagination of public audiences. Proposed most promising experts as potential speakers or guest panelists for live programs aimed at motivating public engagement with science. Wrote web content for the worldsciencefestival.com. Developed the mathematically-relevant content of a 2 minute movie clip to introduce a public program entitled The Mathematical Universe.
