Reporting to the President & CEO, and serving as a member of the senior management team, the Director of Community Engagement & Advocacy is responsible for leading Visit SLO CAL’s initiatives ensuring San Luis Obispo County’s growth and sustainability, while improving quality of life, as it continues to evolve as a world-class, choice destination.The Director is the champion for Visit SLO CAL’s destination management initiatives. These initiatives include the following: management and coordination of the Destination Management Strategy (DMS) including collaborating with DMS consultant, government entities, community partners and residents, implementation of the finalized plan, and development and facilitation of marketing and advocacy efforts surrounding the plan. The Director supports economic growth, job creation and retention while utilizing and strengthening strategic partnerships with key government and industry relations partners. I travel for two months with the Vans Warped Tour, representing B4BC by setting up an educational booth about breast cancer awareness. I train volunteers at each stop of the tour and manage day to day operations of booth set-up and breakdown, merchandise, accounting, and promotion. I create video blogs and document the journey on the B4BC social network sites.

Assist in coordinating volunteer shifts for both pre-Festival and Festival duties, help in managing them during their shifts, compose email updates and keep the social networks relevant for the volunteers.

I manage around 400 volunteers from hiring them for specific volunteer positions, coordinating their needs (i.e. if they need lodging), creating their shift schedules, and ensuring they are arriving for their jobs each day and completeing the tasks asked of them. I work within Filemaker, Outlook Express, Excel, and work on a daily basis while making phone calls to potential volunteers to conduct interviews and hire them.
