As a staff writer for the Chesapeake Bay Journal and BayJournal.com, I cover Virginia, DC & Anacostia topics as they relate to the Bay and, often, as they intersect with agriculture or societal issues. I've followed the legal battles over natural gas pipelines to the Supreme Court, covered coal ash controversies and plastics legislation across the region. But covering the people and animals of the watershed — especially dolphins and mussels — is what keeps me interested. My work for the Bay Journal earned Environmental and General Reporting awards from the Virginia Press Association and Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association.

My work has appeared nationally in The Washington Post, National Geographic, NPR, Smithsonian Magazine and Civil Eats and in regional publications like Virginia Living, Northern Virginia and Arlington magazines. I served as guest editor for Edible DC’s fall 2018 and summer 2016 issues. Our cover story for Edible's spring 2019 issue won two honorable mentions from the international Hermes Creative Awards.

Reestablished a business beat and coverage of the agricultural and environmental issues for which this region north of Seattle is known. Consistently produced long-form narratives that delved deeper into news events and the characters behind them. Earned an award for our team’s coverage of a deadly refinery blast, the fallout of which I covered for nearly two years.

Covered the ongoing recession’s impact on local businesses, sought out features on companies creatively coping with the economic environment, pushed in-depth stories to the front page with persistent reporting and relevant writing. Worked with a cohesive team to maintain coverage of local beats.

Recruited as an intern based on previous freelance work.
