While I have experience as a communications professional in the private sector - starting out in journalism, then moving to nonprofit public relations, before having a blast at a marketing agency - I really find that serving different communities through public service is the career path that speaks to my soul. Prior to joining the City of San Luis Obispo in May 2021, I worked at the County of San Luis Obispo for nearly 7 years, building an award-winning public relations program. For the last year of my time at the County, I served as the lead Public Information Officer for the County's COVID-19 incident command team. I managed a public information team of up to 30 people, and developed strategies to help keep the public informed about the pandemic in SLO County. Prior to working for the County, I cut my teeth working as a digital strategist and public relations specialist at Verdin Marketing for three years and as a public relations professional at the local Chamber of Commerce for two years. In both positions, I worked with a variety of businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies and managed many projects, produced quality communications materials, built and designed mobile apps and websites, and reached overall goals by telling unique stories in meaningful and compelling ways. I helped clients increase their social media reach, impressions, sales, website visits - you name it. At the Chamber, my search engine optimization and diligent dedication to and maintenance of the websites and communications led to significant increases in web traffic (as much as 137% increase year over year) and social media engagement.
