Hi, I’m Whitney! I’m a reporter. As Story Collector for the Cover Alabama Campaign at Alabama Arise, I’m working to elevate stories from more than 200,000 folks who are uninsured or caught in the health care coverage gap. I’ve built sites on WordPress for years, edited copy layout for local newspapers and worked at advertising agencies handling social marketing & writing copy for print advertising since 2009.I returned to college at the age of 30 to study journalism. I then spent time reporting at my local NPR station, covering the generational costs of the opioid crisis on displaced children and those in foster care in Walker County.My passion is rural storytelling. I grew up as a coal miner's daughter (and granddaughter, niece and cousin) in a small town between Jasper and Birmingham. I believe the issues affecting Alabama and the country as a whole begin their life cycle in these communities. Whether it's healthcare disparity, economic hardship or racial inequality...
