I started my own car retail company dealing in both new and pre-owned cars, and led the charge for overall strategic direction and management of the business, including sales, marketing, operations, and finance. With my extensive experience in the car retail industry and strong business acumen, I was involved in setting and executing the company's strategic vision and objectives, developing and implementing effective sales and marketing strategies to drive revenue growth, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and industry partners, overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure efficient delivery of products and services, and managing a team of sales consultants and support staff.

My desire for personal growth pushed me to excel in this industry. I was made team leader in 6 months and within a year, I led a group of three sales managers and over 30 sales consultants across four new and pre-owned car retail outlets as a sales director. My responsibilities included developing and executing sales strategies, building strong relationships with clients and industry partners, overseeing the recruitment and training of sales staff, and implementing process improvements to drive growth and improve customer satisfaction.

I was there briefly. Not because I didn’t like the company but I just had to progress faster than I was supposed to. The company only needed me to sell cars and I found myself growing out of it after just 3 months. I had to grow faster. My superiors gave me great training however, and the experience marked my entry into the car trade.

This was my first sales job where I had to deck myself out in classic business attire, pleated pants and leather shoes. We hadn't gone paperless in that era yet so being a consultant was a real challenge. The ability to conclude deals with mere newspaper clippings and gift of the gab was key. Back then I specialized in comprehensive financial planning solutions for individuals in areas of life insurance, savings, and CPF investment products.The time I had with AIA was an eye-opener and set my sights further ahead.

It wasn't always about the hero saving cats from the trees. In my earlier years I had to pursue petty robbers under the intense sun with full operational equipment which made me realised that I was actually quite good at it. Many commander's awards later, I was transferred to the investigation branch, managing and solving hundreds of island-wide cases as a Senior Investigation Officer. I have an innate ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders, including victims, witnesses, and other law enforcement officers. With my problem-solving skills and critical thinking, I was able to adapt to changing circumstances and make sound decisions.
