Since ten years I am working on the evolution of social behaviours in Hymenoptera, addressing various questions through the investigation of nesting habits, foraging patterns, mating system and parasite pressure. I have been working with different species, bees and wasps, investigating the level of interactions among conspecifics. Some of the genera I worked with are Cerceris, Stizus, Andrena. Polistes.At the moment my focus is on a social Sphecidae, Cerceris rubida: field work directed towards the recognition of individual social status and laboratory work to define genetic relatedness among nestmates.I recently investigated also the foraging patterns of Apis mellifera, in collaboration with a colleague, Prof. Giovanna Aronne (University of Naples Federico II). This collaboration is still going on and we are evaluating bee visits for pollen collection to some so far underestimated plants.Specialties: organising field work, observational protocols, manipulative observations; data recording in different field locations, in tropical and temperate areas; statistical elaboration of data; manuscript preparation and reviewMother tongue: Italian.
