For my graduation thesis I am investigating the optimal torque density of three wind turbine drivetrain configurations for “The Delft Offshore Turbine Company”. The goal of the project is to determine a relation between the mass increase and the maximum torque load for each of the three drivetrain types. With this relation it will be possible to predict which drivetrain type will achieve the best results for the future’s high torque loads.

Skyframes is a company that performs wind turbine maintenance inspections with drones. Skyframes's main focus is to assess the damage on wind turbine blades. With the help of drones we can eliminate the need for workers to fast rope down a blade and thus increase the speed and safety during an inspection. With this new technology we are able to inspect a windturbine four times faster than the conventional method. As General-Manager I am responsible for the company procedures. Furthermore, I am closely involved with the operational side of the company, overseeing inspections and the testing of new drones systems and inspection procedures.

During the Mega Expedition, organized by The Ocean Cleanup project, I participated as a researcher and drone pilot in an international team. I spend 4 weeks offshore aboard the Ocean Starr on the Pacific, sailing between San Francisco and Hawaii. The goal of the mission was to estimate the mass of the plastic that was floating in the ocean. My main responsibilities were to analyze the plastic that was captured in the nets of the boat as well as flying the drone to analyze plastic features that were too heavy to bring onboard.
