Lots of field experience working in operations management, extension services and implementing the requirements of all major agricultural certification programs. Expert in dealing with smallholder farmer cooperatives. Analysed their organisations and guided their premium spending to benefit their members. Reviewed, reorganised and managed training departments. Always looked for ways to improve the farmer-trainer relationship and training approach to increase the impact training has to trigger a behavioural change within the farmers. We need to get serious about changing our food supply chains and agricultural production systems to adapt to climate change, stop deforestation and reduce rural poverty. I am convinced this should be done through a collaborative 360 degree approach. We should create the conditions in which a journey of continuous improvement will ultimately lead to sustainable rural livelihoods. I believe we should be careful to try and shape policy in boardrooms and from behind our desks without enough input and experience from the field. We need to stay in close contact with the beginning of the chain and talk to farmers and other stakeholders. We need to build relationships with them to understand their challenges and experience them firsthand.
