Orthostatic Tremor: investigation to increase knowledge regarding phenotype of orthostatic tremor and treatment effects. Including the effect of (novel) medication and deep brain stimulation.

I work on the department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology under the supervision of Dr. A.F. van Rootselaar, where I am continuing the study I worked on during my second internship of my study Neuroscience. I examine the effect of deep brain stimulation in orthostatic tremor patients and asses if the quality of life of the operated patients improves. In addition, I examine whether treatment outcome could be predicted by neurophysiological signals. In addition to the research, I am responsible for supervising master's students who are looking into the effects of novel treatment options for Orthostatic Tremor during their scientific internship at the department.

The COVID-19 program aims at fighting the pandemic and consist of several sub-programmes.I am responsible for the sub-program vaccine. This program focuses on the knowledge development that is necessary in the Netherlands for the optimal use of COVID-19 vaccines. Within this sub-program, research is set up that is necessary for Dutch patients and their caregivers and where Dutch research has an added value, in addition to international research.

The Rational Pharmacotherapy program ('Goed Gebruik Geneesmiddelen' ) aims at optimizing effective, safe and efficient use of existing and available medicines, i.e. pharmacological treatments authorized for the Dutch market. Questions concerning the use of medication in daily (clinical) practice are a central theme.Together with my managers, I am responsible for the Open call. The aim of this call is the more effective, safer and more efficient use of existing drugs. In addition to the Rational Pharmacotherapy programma, I am also involved in the Ethics and Health program ('Ethiek en Gezondheid'). The aim of this program is to increase knowledge and understanding of ethical dilemmas in the field of ethics and health.Together with my manager, I am responsible for new calls, and the monitoring of funded studies.From March 2020 till June 2020 I was involved in the COVID-19 program, focus area: predictive diagnostics and treatment. Furthermore I was responsible for the coordination of the program officers from the different focus areas of the COVID-19 program.

During my internship I was part of the department of Neurology and Clinical Nuerophysiology of Dr. A.F. van Rootselaar. Under the supervision of Dr. A.F. van Rootselaar, I examined the effect of deep brain stimulation in orthostatic tremor patients and whether treatment outcome could be predicted by neurophysiological signals. During this internship I analysed pre- and postoperative EMG recordings of the muscles and DTI data of the white matter tracts stimulated by the deep brain electrodes. In addition, I collected subjective measures to see whether the quality of life of the patients improved after the DBS surgery.

During my intership I was part of the department Anatomy and Neurosciences in the section Clinical Neurosciences of Dr. H. Hulst. Under supervision of Dr. H. Hulst and Dr. Q. van Geest, I examined the effects of dance on the functional connectivity in patients with multiple sclerosis. During this internship I worked with functional connectivity measures at rest of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, thalamus and hippocampus. These functional connectivity measures were related to the patients cognitive functions after the dance intervention. The cognitive data was collected using neuropsycological examination.

During my internship I was part of the Experimental Cardiology group of Dr. C.A. Remme. Under supervision of Dr. V. Portero, I examined the effect of a specific genetic mutation in the cytoplasmic linker associated protein-2 on the cardiac sodium current in the Brugada syndrome. During this internship I measured the sodium current of HEK cells that were transfected with the mutated cytoplasmic linker associated protein-2, using voltage-clamp patch clamp technique.
