After obtaining nearly 8 years of work experience in wire harness industry driven under IPC/WHMA standards, I joined another well reputed wire harness manufacturing company in Sri Lanka as the Production Manager. Currently, my job responsibilities are as follows.-Developing and deploying innovative lean management approaches to eliminate, combine, rearrange and simplify the manufacturing processes-Establishing and implementing the best quality assurance practices in wire harness manufacturing industry throughout the supply chain-Initiating technical development approaches for raw materials by conducting gap analysis on the existing materials-Managing continuous improvement initiatives to drive gains in Productivity, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety and Morale (PQCSDM)-Developing maintenance protocols by integrating statistical process analysis to achieve the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)-Developing skill management protocols by analyzing the training requirements and the learning curve-Developing Standard Operating Procedures to sustain a consistent output-Implementing harness testing procedures and also necessary harness testers, to ensure the functionality of the wire harnesses-Planning and buffering the capacity, inventory and time effectively to achieve on-time delivery-Establishing a new product implementation team to achieve First Time Right (FTR) quality, and deliver harness samples to the relevant parties by collaborating with the R & D Department-Communicating investment requirement with ROI analysis to the Managing Director-Leading engineering, planning, supervisory and production staff to achieve departmental KPIs-Utilizing IFS ERP application for an adequate material and production planning-Involving for negotiations and development of raw materials with the Procurement Department-Partnering with leadership on recruiting, hiring and coaching production personnel

Badalgama

As the Deputy Production Manager-Wire Harness, I standardized production procedures, job roles, and quality assurance guidelines and also reviewed work for quality and compliance with company standards and design specifications. I effectively led engineering, maintenance, supervisory and production teams to achieve KPIs, aligning with the company goals. I collaborated with technical and new product implementation (NPI) teams to serialize samples and also did planning of future investments and ROI estimation to be submitted for the Switzerland Head Office approval. Communicating investment requirement with ROI analysis to the Managing Director was another important task that I carried out. I managed continuous improvement initiatives to drive gains in quality, flow, and output. I participated in several projects as a coordinator including single pilot aircraft engine harness assembling, lean waste elimination etc. By utilizing my knowledge on instrumentation, I was able to develop an automated functionality tester to ensure the performance of the engine harnesses. To achieve on-time delivery, planning and buffering of the capacity, inventory and time were carried out in an effective manner. Service contracts with machine manufacturers were managed and budgeted under my supervision.

Under this role, I also got the important responsibilities to ensure the availability and the quality of raw materials and also to ensure the availability, performance and quality of wire harness processing machineries and tools. I made sure to maintain the skill requirement of all employees at the Machinery and Harness Assembling sections. Analysis of the machine parameters was done to optimize the output of machine work centers, so that the required Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) could be achieved. I applied my thorough knowledge on lean manufacturing principles to optimize the output of assembling operators by carrying out time studies. I enhanced my skills on ERP applications by utilizing SAP ERP application for an adequate material and production planning. I conducted analysis for products and processes in my section, and provided actionable solutions for changes to processes, products or quality standards. Root cause analysis and corrective actions and preventive actions (CAPA) implementation were done as per the requirement.

After my graduation, I joined Variosystems as a Shift Engineer - Wire Harness. Under that position, I was mainly responsible for the production planning and controlling of the Machinery section of the Wire Harness department. I also maintained the quality of the process as per the updated IPC/WHMA standards. I guided my subordinates to maintain the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to ensure the quality, availability and performance of wire harness processing and machineries. I got engaged in investment planning and layout preparation to achieve an effective material flow in my section. I participated for the scheduling of preventive maintenance of the important machineries and also coordinated with well reputed service providers to optimize their performance.

Madampe

During the internship period at HAYCARB PLC, I had the opportunity to improve my hands-on experience on equipment maintenance and designing, by actively participating for boiler maintenance activities and designing a cyclone for charcoal separation. I also prepared preventive maintenance schedule for the rotary kilns of the plant.

Kaduwela

As a trainee production engineer, I was able to involve in creating working instructions (WI) for converting left hand drive Hummer to right hand drive and also CAD drawings for CNC lacer cutting machine. I obtained an effective training on wood finish painting and welding of auto parts. My competency on production lay outing was enhanced by doing lay outing for vehicle conversion bay during this internship.
