Dr. Will Ikerd, P.E., Ph.D. is principal at IKERD. The firm’s practice areas of expertise are engineering, Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), Building Information Modeling (BIM), construction-grade models, and Reality Capture with Laser Scanning to BIM. He has over twenty-five years of experience in these areas. He is an expert consultant in designing and constructing BIM and VDC processes. Dr. Ikerd served in leadership of the AGC BIMForum from 2008 to 2019 and was one of the founding members of the Level Of Development (LOD) Specification taskforce that developed the AGC BIMForum LOD Specification. He originally authored the proposal for the LOD 350 definition, which he published in 2009 and was later ratified in the AGC BIMForum 2023 LOD specification.Additionally, he was selected to be the Principal Investigator of the Pankow Foundation / AGC BIMForum BIM Execution Plans (BxP) task force. He has won the “Best Speaker” award twice from the International Structures Congress, Structural Engineering Magazine’s “Top 10 Leaders in Structural Engineering”, Glass Magazine's “Top 30 under 40”, and Building Design & Construction’s “Top 40 Under 40”. He graduated with his bachelor’s in civil engineering and master's in structural engineering in the mid-nineties from Washington University in St. Louis with a focus on 3D parametric modeling. He completed his Ph.D. at The University of Denver with research in BIM, VDC, and scan-to-BIM with Level Of Acceptance (LOA) in building applications.
