As a project developer, I was responsible for the development of onshore wind projects. These development responsibilities included preliminary resource evaluations, early layout plans, liaising with landowners, coordinating the project permitting and preparing the project for offtake.

I worked on site at the head office in Stellenbosch. I spent my first few weeks at Chronotech working on the programming and wiring of an automated system for plastic injection moulded components. I was tasked with the job of researching the programming of the specific packaging machine in detail to be able to alter some of its code to reduce the number of packaging errors, and thus reduce the load on the quality control team.I finished my apprenticeship by doing some wiring for the packaging machine, as well as the computer aided design of a robot component which assisted the packaging process. The designs, done in Autodesk Inventor, were then sent to a laser cutting specialist to be manufactured.

I worked on site at the head office and workshop in Edenvale, Johannesburg. I spent the first few weeks mostly shadowing and assisting the engineers designing the hydraulic systems, as well as the artisans manufacturing these systems in the workshop.I was thereafter challenged with designing a complete hydraulic system from scratch. This process involved everything from researching previous hydraulic systems and doing calculations from first principles, to component selection, diagram sketching and even project costing.

I worked on site at the head office and bus depot in Epping, Cape Town. I spent the first few weeks mostly shadowing and assisting the floor technicians in various departments such as transmission systems, engines, electrical systems and wiring, breakdowns and body work. Thereafter I spent some more time in the transmission systems department, where I assisted with the disassembly, cleaning, quality inspection, reassembly, testing and installation of the gearboxes of the buses.I finished off my last few weeks of vacation training in the breakdowns' department, looking into the most frequent and most costly breakdowns and what the possible underlying causes of these breakdowns were. I also investigated easy-to-implement solutions and "quick fixes" to reduce the number of these forementioned breakdowns.
