About Brett Wiley

After two decades in the Midwest, I arrived in the Beltway and at The White House with hopes of passing national climate legislation. Instead, I responded to the largest oil spill in world history. Just as our communities need to adapt to climate change, I'm able to adapt to changing circumstances and still deliver high-impact outcomes. My experiences and leadership reside in a varied body of work centered on the power of people coming together. I've started a business, non-profits, and initiatives with an entrepreneurial, collaborative spirit. I've taken a clean energy social enterprise from a city to a region as a result of mutually beneficial partnerships, mission focus, and lean development.I also don't need to lead. I've followed the leadership of others in the grasstops of federal government and the grassroots of policy and Presidential campaigns. My life's work is building more resilient organizations and communities, whether that's through the mitigation & adaptation to climate change or expanding access to a more inclusive commons.

Listed skills include Community Outreach, Sustainability, Community Organizing, Public Speaking, and 19 others.

Customer Programs Manager

Mce

San Rafael, Ca, Us

I manage electric transportation programs and the subject matter expert for a publicly owned electricity supplier serving over 1.5 million residents, businesses, non-profits, and public agencies across 36 Northern California communities. Our goal is to remove the top 3 barriers of EV adoption while ensuring access to the market beyond early adopters and shaping the load to align with renewable generation. Through April 2021, our MCEv Charging program funded and supported the installation of over 1,200 Level 2 ports at workplaces and multi-family housing, while providing technical assistance to customers and helping our jurisdictions meet AB1236 compliance to streamline permitting for charging infrastructure. We are also providing equitable access to EVs through community-based partnerships & the first streamlined rebate application in the State that allows income-qualified applicants to apply for multiple rebates at the same time. As a result, over 300 families purchased an EV and 4,000 more families know about incentives, charging, and other benefits of an EV.I've secured and managed over $4M in California Energy Commission grant funds. I was the project manager of a 3-year, $1.7M R&D grant. Managing the grant across all stakeholders, our completed deliverables include a CCA DER policy review, 4 demonstration projects, a wiki-like program & software guide, and NavigaDER - a new software tool created to help CCAs evaluate and design customer programs for deployment of DERs. In May 2021, MCE and local agency partners started a 3-year, $2.5M implementation grant to deploy EV charging, e-bikes, EV car share, workforce development, and outreach across priority marginalized communities to further equitable access to transportation electrification.

Over the course of five years, I went from volunteering at this community-based social enterprise to directing their central and largest program. Policy & Planning Intern

Washington, D.C., Us

By happenstance, I picked up on a project that I supported at the White House Council on Environmental Quality: America's Great Outdoors Initiative (AGO), which is President Obama's 21st Century conservation plan. The AGO launch in spring 2010 was followed by a nation-wide listening sessions during summer 2010. I was on a team that planned and implemented two of those listening sessions focused on youth perspective. The two sessions: a 100-person Southeast Regional summit in Asheville, NC and a 568-person national summit (Outdoor Nation) in Central Park. In addition to supporting logistics and being a lead facilitator, I translated listening session experiences & raw data from across the country into memos and a briefing paper on NPS youth engagement, which I presented to NPS leadership.

I prepared briefing material utilized by then-Chair Sutley for Congressional testimony, as well as prepared calls and meetings with impacted communities.

Sierra Student Coalition

After 12,000 young people gathered in DC for PowerShift 2009, I took on the task of organizing one of eleven regional PowerShifts. With national staff support, I was able to accomplish the following in the span of 6 weeks: • Identified, recruited, developed, and supported 12 volunteer teams & leaders throughout Missouri• Organized and recruited for a state-wide conference of 150 attendeesMajor outcomes of Missouri PowerShift was the creation of Missouri Student Environmental Coalition, comprised of college and high school representation from across the state, and developed a coalition across once overlapping partners to support our shared interests. Both coalitions showed their newfound strength weeks later at the first International Day of Climate Action. On the steps of the St.Louis Arch, Mayor Slay signed the City's first climate commitment.

Founder & Instructor, Student Initiated Courses

Kirksville, Mo, Us
