As an international corporate and finance lawyer, worked with clients in a wide range of industries in the U.S., Asia and Europe. Served as Managing Director and Chief Regional Counsel – North Asia for JPMorgan Chase & Co. (“JPMorgan”) while stationed in Hong Kong. Established the first legal office in Asia for one of JPMorgan’s heritage institutions, The Chase Manhattan Corporation. During an Asia career spanning 7.5 years, built a unique and successful track record of acting as a core member of and main legal advisor to a committee of senior bankers and executives of JPMorgan in Asia tasked with review of and guidance on potential ethical, conflicts of interest, reputational and regulatory issues arising from proposed investment banking activities in Asia ex-Japan. In addition, built and led a constructive team of lawyers and support staff at JPMorgan in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Korea. Moreover, applied proficiency in Mandarin Chinese to negotiating certain transactions to a successful close and effectively interfacing with many clients and regulators in Asia.During a career at JPMorgan spanning 14 years overall, counseled senior bankers and managers on a wide range of matters relating to bank financings, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, derivatives, sale of retail bank business in HK, group structural and corporate governance issues, and regulatory issues arising under the U.S. and various Asian jurisdictions. Also gave advice to senior management on corporate social responsibility. In addition, delivered, as keynote speaker, well-received presentations on corporate responsibility at major international conferences.Before joining JPMorgan, worked at several leading law firms in New York City.Currently, draws on the above background, among other resources, in acting as an independent researcher and writer on corporate ethics, responsibility and governance and sustainability, writing for an international audience.
