Press Officer And Multimedia Editor

Walsall, United Kingdom

My role at Walsall Football Club was multi-faceted - from handling the club’s press and PR requirements to hosting and presenting events, television shows, video content and radio productions in an extremely fast-paced environment. My role required me to manage the media and press aspects within a popular Sky Bet League One football club in the West Midlands. From developing original ideas to filming, hosting, editing and publishing them myself, I provided new content for the club's supporters to enjoy. With the three-man communications desk, I ran the club's social media output from stories on the website, including corporate events and the latest team news, plus exclusive interviews, and generating unique content for all platforms. We revamped the club's Instagram and Snapchat accounts particularly to appeal to a younger audience.I also provided full commentary for every one of our first-team matches - spending the week researching for upcoming games and liaising with the EFL.I learned every day within this role - from what football fans want and expect from their football club's output to practical computer skills including video and audio software, and how best to utilise those within a changing football media landscape. I learned new skills and pushed new personal limits daily, all while developing personal and professional relationships.

Sports Journalist/Burton Albion Writer

Burton Mail

Burton

I was responsible for the coverage of Burton Albion Football Club for the Burton Mail from June 2015, extensively covering the club's historic promotion to the Championship and their first ever season in that tier while developing and enacting the Mail's sports desk's web-first strategy in the switch to Trinity Mirror's Newsroom 3.1 system, utilising SEO effectively in doing so.I effectively built the Burton Mail sports desk's social media presence - creating Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube pages and publishing unique content to each - while using my personal social media accounts to further boost the sports desk's social output. From Facebook Live to Instagram Stories, I ensured that any content I produced made the most of the latest developments within the social media industry.I worked extensively with producing and publishing content from written articles to video pieces (including presenting to camera), podcasts (hosting, contributing and editing) and more. I utilised and became competent in using relevant software, teaching myself to master audio and video editing software. I garnered experience of page design before focusing purely on digital writing, developing ideas and content according to audience trends and feedback - as well as utilising my contacts book to develop stories.

As part of my freelance work, I produced several match reports on matches involving Alfreton Town for the national Non League Paper. I was required to work to extremely tight time deadlines, submitting copy no longer than an hour after the match has finished, including quotes from both managers in each game.
