A three year role as an apprentice broadcast engineer with the BBC, partnered other industry leaders. I am studying to obtain a degree in BEng Broadcast Engineering at the University of Salford and Birmingham City University. As part of the scheme I will complete 6 work placements, each in a unique area of the broadcast industry, these include but are not.

Salford

BBC Engineering Operations (Formerly Technology Operations) in Salford provide support for core broadcast infrastructure used by the BBC within MediaCityUK. This includes but is not limited to servicing devices such as Riedel Panels, Calrec & Studer sound desks and systems such as VCS (Dira) and Mosart. I spent time working for Engineering Operations.

Winter Hill

Arqiva provide an array of services to both broadcast and commercial sectors. I spent time working with the team at Winter Hill, shadowing the work carried out by on site engineers and carrying out tasks that were given to me. During this time, I learned information and gathered practical relating to the practical transmission of Radio/Television.

Mediacityuk

I worked across both departments on this placement with a general split of 2 Days in solution design and the rest in Projects. Projects: As in solution design I worked with a number of people to ensure I gained an understanding for the department as a whole. One stand out experience in this department is work I was able to help with for an equipment.

Mediacityuk

I undertook a 3 Month placement at Dock10 (Based in MediaCityUK). Here, I worked on a project with my colleague Alan Charman to interface camera RCP's using a Snell routing panel allowing >8 RCP's to be used. To achieve this a micro controller and simple circuit were designed and implemented. As part of the placement I also aided in the setup of an Avid.
