This includes but is not limited to servicing devices such as Riedel Panels, Calrec & Studer sound desks and systems such as VCS (Dira) and Mosart. I spent time working for Engineering Operations, where I spent time shadowing Engineers to gain an understanding of the work that they need to carry out, as well as completing a number of projects and carrying out equipment repair where I was able. This placement took place in two parts with a one month break (whilst studying) in the centre. -
Arqiva - Apprentice PlacementArqiva Oct 2015 - Dec 2015Winter HillArqiva provide an array of services to both broadcast and commercial sectors. I spent time working with the team at Winter Hill, shadowing the work carried out by on site engineers and carrying out tasks that were given to me. During this time, I learned information and gathered practical relating to the practical transmission of Radio/Television broadcast, as well as looking at Cellular towers and other services in this domain. As part of the work completed, I spent a week at Emley Moor, the largest concrete structure in the UK, where I observed the monitoring and control systems that Arqiva utilises as well as gaining valuable information from on site engineers, who provided a week long course of induction. During time working for Arqiva, Visited a number of transmission sites, some serving millions of homes and was walked through the equipment needed to carry out such a task as well as some of the configuration and management that is essential for engineers to successfully carry out their work. -
Solution Design/Technology Projects North - Apprentice PlacementBbc May 2015 - Aug 2015MediacityukI worked across both departments on this placement with a general split of 2 Days in solution design and the rest in Projects. Projects: As in solution design I worked with a number of people to ensure I gained an understanding for the department as a whole. One stand out experience in this department is work I was able to help with for an equipment install in BBC Radio Merseyside where I aided in the installation of equipment in the bays and laying cables beneath the floor. I also helped one weekend with the installation of cables to be used as part of the project utilising the Imaginarium (6th Floor Dock House) as a studio for the World Athletics Championship.Solution Design: I worked on a number of tasks here allowing me to view the role of the department and the solutions that they achieve. These tasks included but where not limited to helping in the review process for the procurement of a new Business system and conducting interviews with staff in order to create workflow diagrams in Visio representing the practices of various members of the BBC Sport team and their relation to Final Cut Pro editing software. -
Dock 10 - Apprentice PlacementDock10 Feb 2015 - May 2015MediacityukI undertook a 3 Month placement at Dock10 (Based in MediaCityUK). Here, I worked on a project with my colleague Alan Charman to interface camera RCP's using a Snell routing panel allowing >8 RCP's to be used. To achieve this a micro controller and simple circuit were designed and implemented. As part of the placement I also aided in the setup of an Avid edit suite, and created a lot of BNC cables to be used in the installation of a new video matrix.
