Phase 3 Mechanical Aircraft Technician course @ DSAEFirst line posting to 18(B) Squadron as a Mechanical Aircraft Technician working on CH47 Chinook Mk5, Mk6 & Mk6A. Responsible for inspection, fault diagnosis, maintenance, repair and functional testing of a plethora of mechanical aircraft systems including hydraulics, fuels, airframe, propulsion, rotary systems, flying controls and pneumatics. Working interchangeably across fields of maintenance; from the flight line, to the shop floor and through depth heavy rectification. Serving multiple deployments on operations and exercises across 4 continents and over a dozen countries alongside NATO allies, most often in austere conditions. Now, as a senior technician, I undertake a leading hand role; running teams of junior technicians and developing their technical capabilities and knowledge.

Responsible for receipt and dispatch of aircraft, ground handling operations, pre/post-flight servicing inspections, mechanical & avionic component replacements as well as functional tests. As an AMM, I developed the core foundational skills in becoming a technician and engineer; working hands-on as part of a team and wider unit in a high tempo & pressure environment, both domestically and on Op SHADER to generate airpower.
