He is a multi-instrumentalist that wears many different musical hats, but his main aspiration remains being a music score writer for various visual arts and media. He is currently a composer, sound designer for Carnegie Mellon's Lunar Gala, and writer/performer for two genre-fluid Pittsburgh-based bands (Funky Lamp, Getaway Driver). In his personal compositions, he is putting together an extensive portfolio, including a collection of pieces that tell a cohesive visual story—while also portraying his unique connection with sound and color.William began studying music at the age of four at The Cleveland Music Settlement, where he studied piano with Tatyana Tolmacheva for 15 years and separately learned basic percussion fundamentals. He has also studied guitar for 15 years, trumpet for seven years, and double bass/bass guitar for four years. At Carnegie Mellon University he is in his second year of studying Composition with Nancy Galbraith, and maintaining a 3.95 GPA. William’s compositions weave genres together, effectively combining defining elements from all of his favorite music. Some composers that he would say have had the greatest influence on his work are composers Ludwig Van Beethoven, Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Wayne Lytle; film composers Ludwig Göransson, Michael Giacchino, Hans Zimmer and John Williams; video game composers Kristofer Maddigan, Ryo Nagamatsu, Go Ichinose, Toby Fox, Koji Kondo, Yoko Shimomura, and more.The biggest challenge William faces when composing is how to most effectively combine his ever-growing knowledge of acoustic and electronic music, and how to balance his two very different kinds of work in ways they can coexist. He often starts his pieces as sketches in Logic Pro X, then finds ways to adapt the instrumentation and tonal range to suit instruments in notation. In his studies he has equally expanded his knowledge of both fields, and will continue to find ways to work in multiple mediums. When not listening to, writing, or performing music, William tries to maintain some semblance of the physical conditioning that allowed him to be a four-year varsity high school swimmer and baseball player. He also loves a relaxing night with his friends, in front of a game of Mario Kart.
