Here's my story. At a young age I was diagnosed with an extremely rare disorder called Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) due to a medical emergency called a volvulus. In laymen's terms, my small intestine twisted on itself, cutting off oxygen and blood supply for 30+ hours, and had to be removed. So today, I'm left with ~6-7 cm (2.4 inches) of small intestine. For reference - as you sit and read this - you have about 20 feet (assuming you don't have what I have, of course). There's a lot more to the story - my prognosis was grim, I technically died for a few minutes, and I spent years on life saving medication that simultaneously is toxic to the liver. But I won't bore you with all the details - I wrote a story about it here: https://anthologyus.wordpress.com/2020/09/25/from-no-pulse-to-ceo/Despite all that, I wanted to live as normal a life as possible. And if you would have told me ten years ago I'd be where I am today, I'd tell you you're crazy. I've been a visual creative for years. Spent time in 2D sectors just drawing, painting and photography. In college I studied mechanical engineering being a math and science nerd - and I thought it was awesome that I could take my love of art and use it in the design engineering field. I've worked for small companies, consultant companies, manufacturing plants, and Fortune 500 pharmaceutical companies. I took up a passion at home in 3D Printing - and ended up finding a career in the field. I helped first hand with thousands of projects across the world creating customized solutions for equipment issues, safety enhancements, and future medical devices leveraging 3D technologies. I've had a hand in patentable devices and personally created a solution for handling drug experimentation in low gravity environments (i.e. space!)Then I chose to turn away from all that. I started Anthology. I learned more about business, relationships and innovation in just a few weeks than I had in all my years of schooling combined. Entrepreneurship is extremely rewarding. Not many things in life are simultaneously exciting, yet stressful. It's completely amazing. I'm a founder. An artist. An engineer. A maker. I'm a problem solver. I love to talk to new people. Reach out - even if just to say hi!
