As a Director of Development at Monsanto, Dr. Carpenter headed the teams that tested and ultimately brought to market, Lasso and Roundup. He established significant ties with land grant universities during his 34 years at the company, mentoring countless young scientists in their professional careers. Perhaps his most significant achievement however, was in helping to develop the Chemical Weapons Treaty, which resulted in the formation of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2013. As the primary representative from the Chemical Manufacturers Association, he acted, in concert with other representatives, as "honest brokers" between chemical companies, diplomats, and political & military leaders throughout the world. Dr. Carpenter served as co-chair to Science Advisory Board during his three years as a member. Dr. Carpenter has served on numerous boards in an advisory capacity, including at his alma maters, Mississippi State University and Purdue University.
