Compliance Monitoring currently operates in and around Newman tasked with maintenance and monitoring of water and air quality. My main role within the company consists of sampling and monitoring various types of water to ensure it is within set guidelines and not detrimental to people or the environment. This consists of all forms of water including potable water, groundwater, treated sewage, oily waste water and lakes/rivers. All these different localities are sampled and tested for different specific criteria and all require the knowledge and use of different equipment and techniques.

Sandfire Degrussa Copper Mine

I previously ventured into underground mining for a period of four months with Australian Contract Mining at Degrussa mine site. This mine is located in a highly protected environmental area where all activities are extensively monitored. This gave me experience in the use and necessity of environmental legislation for large scale impact operations in sensitive environmental areas. This site was also composed of significant indigenous heritage sites which incorporated the use of Native Title legislation requirements. Day to day monitoring and testing were also undertaken to ensure the set trigger limits of the environment were not being exceeded and to minimise detriment to flora and fauna interactions in the surrounding areas. Air monitoring was a large factor in this position and was tested vigorously at all times of the day to ensure no dangerous gases were present and diesel fumes were not in exceedance. As well as expanding my mind to environmental policies in Western Australia I also gained experience in the construction and maintenance side of mining. I performed jobs in many areas including water lines, structural issues and basic upkeep and cleaning of equipment.
