Working as project Manager for Network Rail Maintenance. Managing a budget of £6million to undertake maintenance to over 500miles of track in the Wales area. Working on maintenance of drainage, boundary fences, access points, level crossings and vegetation to maintain a safe and operational railway. engaging with key stakeholders and train operating companies to ensure that the operation of the railway continues with minimal delays and disruption.Management of annual budget to ensure that target volumes of maintenance are achieved, making adjustments throughout the year to ensure that efficiencies in the use of resource are made. Planning of large scale project work to deliver vegetation removal to create a compliant railway. Possession availability, plant and resources are scrutinized to ensure that the most effective use of time and resources are achieved to deliver the maximum volume.

• Taking a winning tender from award through to completion including managing direct and sub contracted labour forces across multiple live projects to ensure that the correct resources are available and allocated during any given week. Forecasting to manage medium to longer term resource levels, ensuring that all projects have the required workforce throughout the project durations for successful delivery. • Producing and reviewing Project Management Plans, Task Briefings and Risk Assessments ahead of the works ensuring that the work can be carried out in a safe and practical manner. • Implementing design from award of AFC drawings, including setting out and employing engineering expertise to ensure work is constructed in line with AFC drawings and to the required standard set out within the project specification.• Working alongside the Client and Principal contractors to deliver the project safely and on programme. Applying quick decision making and raising ideas to overcome on site issues. • Project managing multiple live projects across the UK by maintaining a track of programme and costs; ordering all plant and materials that are required across the project portfolio to ensure they are onsite and prepared in time for use.• Visiting sites on a weekly basis to undertake safety tours. Acknowledging best practices being used across the sites and reporting these back so that they can be used on other schemes. Addressing any areas of safety that could be improved to maintain standards. Discussing on site issues with the site supervisors and ensuring that suggestions are implemented so as to reduce potential hazards. • Undertaking applications for payment at the end of a financial period for all projects based on the work completed during the period. Attending pre-contract award meetings, as well as commercial and final account meetings to ensure that all costs of the work are recovered.

Responsible for the East concourse Extension Works. An extension to the existing above station concourse, Organising and scheduling a number of different subcontractors in order for works to progress within a confined work area. Working within the tight restraints imposed on the works; including noise , public interface and working above a live station platform and railway. Producing method statements and Work Package Plans as well as working inline with the regulations set out by the Principal Contractor and Station Management teams.Weekend Possession working. Firstly organising and preparing sub-contractors and direct labour to under take works and then, acting as a supervisor on weekend shifts, making decisions in a high pressured environment. Working closely with the client's representatives and other contractors in order to deliver the end goal on a tight timescale.

Whilst on site I undertook the role of assistant site manager on a number of refurbishment projects. I was responsible for all record keeping and quality assurance, guaranteeing that all daily undertakings and personnel on site were accounted for, which enabled me to develop my interpersonal skills.I was able to follow the translation of design through to completed structure and witness the unforeseen problems that can arise during this process. Problem solving was a skill that I was able to develop when aiding the site manager to overcome these problems effectively, and ensure similar issues were avoided on other projects. I also spent time within the design office, where I was able to transfer the skills and knowledge gained on site to take an active role during site visits and when developing feasibility studies.Through developing risk assessments, environmental assessments as well as task briefings and work package plans, I was able to plan for potential issues, ensuring that costs were reduced and programmes achieved.I put to use academic theory whilst undertaking calculation checks and within preliminary calculations for a replacement footbridge. In addition I researched relevant codes of practice to ensure that a compliant tender was put forward.Being involved within the procurement process of a project gave me a greater insight into how a business operates and the importance of ensuring that all legal documents were present and correct. Vital experience working as part of a team; dealing with members of the public to resolve their complaints in a polite but efficient manner. This position came with a high degree of responsibility as I was frequently left in charge of the premises during the owner's absence.My responsibilities included: organising other members of staff; opening up the premises; balancing the till; cellar and stock work. In order to fulfil this role I had to ensure that I was polite, efficient, reliable and trustworthy.

My responsibilities were to ensure that the ski lift apparatus was correctly maintained and open to customers whenever possible. I also had to make sure that safe access could be gained to the lifts and ski area, whilst ensuring that I promoted the company through interacting with the customers in a polite manner.By working closely with the resort team I learnt valuable skills such as avalanche rescue; use of avalanche equipment; interpreting weather and snow pack conditions; basic first aid and the use of VHF radio. The experience of being an independent traveller has had a positive impact on me.
