Farmers at the Hmong american Farmers Association (HAFA) farm grow Brussels sprouts as one of their crops. However, they are unable to sell competitively due to the time and labor required for harvesting and sorting the sprouts at their relatively small scale. My team was assigned with the task of designing and building a low-cost Brussels sprout harvester capable of debudding, trimming, and sorting sprouts into different sizes. This simple automation was able to reduce the time to process one Brussels sprout by ten times.This project was done as my senior capstone project with three team members. We considered not only manufacturability and cost as we created and built the the device in the St. Thomas shop, but compliance with safety and health regulations. My team and I built 85-90% of our final device ourselves, including custom-building key parts on the mill and lathe.

During the Summer of 2018, I worked for Robert Jamieson, a Professional Engineer in Philidelephia. Our primary project was assessing a building for flood risk factors, and preparing a plan to deal with several floodwater scenarios. In addition, I got the opportunity to volunteer with him assisting the restoration project on the USS Olympia, an 1895 US warship by taking field measurements and composing an equipment removal diagram in AutoCAD for use by restoration workers, attached.

I worked on a team under Dr. John Wentz researching several methods of improving the strength of 3D-printed parts with localized heating.I have:-Made microscope measurements to inform finite elements modelling-Designed and iterated custom brackets to hold optical mirrors in Solidworks-Run and analyzed tensile and three-point bent tests-Designed and printed a variety of parts

I worked as a summer researcher for UST's Center for Applied Mathematics learning about chaos theory and meteorology to help develop a mathematical understanding of tornado genesis. I presented my findings at internal symposia, and was also lucky to get sponsored for the undergraduate poster session of the Joint Mathematics Meeting in 2017 after my abstract was accepted.
