Building a rapport with clients is one of my favorite aspects of my work. Connecting with people to develop a mutually beneficial solution is a theme across my career – from my “island days” behind the bar on St. John crafting the perfect novelty cocktail, to finding investors and making a real estate development deal. This range of experience gives me an edge my clients appreciate: I know how to get to the heart of an issue, and I engage with them to craft a solution.Clients don’t always love picking up the phone to call their lawyer, especially a litigator – nobody likes being sued or having to pursue legal action. I pride myself on bringing warmth and congeniality to every encounter, and building a relationship on trust that clients value. I relish the creativity that practicing law affords. One of my favorite things about my job is digging into a client’s problem and exploring it from all angles to develop the best solution. I’ve handled hundreds of contested real estate matters and other cases at the trial level, and I derive particular satisfaction from addressing nuanced legal points at issue in the appeals context.My commercial litigation and appellate client base comprises commercial landlords and members of the real estate industry, general contractors from the construction space, and financial services institutions. I handle a wide variety of commercial litigation matters in Florida at the state, federal, and appellate levels, including litigating construction contract disputes, leasing and landlord/tenant disputes, property insurance claims, title insurance claims, and other unique retail and commercial real estate matters, as well as consumer protection statutes, collections, bankruptcy actions involving mortgage and automobile lenders and credit card companies, foreclosures, financial restructuring, and commercial loan workouts.In my role as Managing Partner of McGlinchey’s Jacksonville and Ft. Lauderdale offices, I enjoy mentoring other attorneys and devising high-level strategies to advance client interests. I particularly like collaborating with my counterparts in the firm’s Consumer Financial Services regulatory and compliance team. This deep bench positions us to manage all aspects of a financial institution’s legal needs, and I like providing that comprehensive service to my clients.
