About Will Guy
Originally from the California Bay Area, I've spent the past 7 years all over the country. My first stop was at the University of Wisconsin in Madison where I earned a double-major in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, and gained a true appreciation for college football. Go Badgers. After undergrad, I moved on to the University of Chicago where I earned my Master's degree in Chemistry, concentrating my studies on organic chemistry synthesis. Most recently I moved out to Seattle for a change of scenery, subsequently trading in snow drifts for a constant drizzle. Some fun facts about me: - I've been a nerd my whole life. Ever since I was a kid I've loved learning and would get obsessed about a single animal, meteorological phenomenon, chemistry, or insects in enthusiastic bursts. Starting off with spiders and snakes, I moved on to everything from tornadoes and thunderstorms to making thermite in my backyard using (breaking, and replacing) my Mom's coffee grinder. Needless to say my innate curiosity and need to learn as much as I can about as many things as possible sparked my interest in science from an early age, eventually leading me to chemistry. - My twin brother is my best friend--something about sharing a room, schools, and soccer teams for 18 years I guess. We grew up side by side and he's the reason I moved to Seattle, but we're about as different as twins come. He's the extroverted full-time carpenter, part-time executive chef who can drop an engine out of a pickup, do some work, and when reassembled it'll start on the first key turn. I'm a lab rat with a passion for organic chemistry, cooking, and a good documentary or nonfiction book about the Byzantine Empire. - My feet are so large I need to order custom soccer cleats, and my hands make Starbucks Grande coffee cups look like a child's sippy cup. - At the risk of alienating potential employers, I play Magic the Gathering. Obsessively. That is all. - I am an avid soccer fan and love watching English Premier games. I'll tell you who I support if you ask me in person, but revealing my team poses an even greater risk of polarization than MTG, in my opinion. The boy pleads the 5th. - Spoken like a true (young) Millennial, my dream job would involve work in environmental chemistry, and would use my skills to help combat issues with climate change. Knowing that my work makes an impact and could change even a tiny corner of the world motivates me, and I gain a deep satisfaction from meaningful work that could result in far-reaching, positive impact.
