Think Pacific is a new but fast developing organisation which looks to develop communities in the South Pacific such as Fiji in regards to education and extra curricular activities especially. My role as a volunteer was to immerse myself within every detail of the rich family and community culture and teach the children of the local primary school. Each day in the school we continuously developed our relationships with the children which helped us to understand their strengths, weaknesses and learning patterns which best suited them. This allowed us to teach the children English, science and maths most effectively. The development of the children academically and the vast improvement of test results in just 3 weeks was proof of the hard work of myself and all volunteers. The entire journey was a monumental challenge for myself whether that was teaching and communicating effectively with a child of 8 who speaks English as a third language, or understanding traditions and cultural norms in the furthest country from my home. I grew as an individual as a result and such a humbling experience gave me a further empathetic outlook on life.
