I write about the biggest problems facing asset managers - climate change, Britain's divorce from the European Union and the upheaval caused by digital assets - for Risk.net. I talk to risk managers and heads of trading at conventional fund managers and insurers alike. And I know plenty of people from the worlds of banking, high frequency trading/market making and stock exchanges too.

I covered the fortunes and foibles of the City of London and its inhabitants during this short-term contract. I reported that a decision by the FCA at the start of November 2020 would result in London losing its status as Europe's biggest financial centre for stock trading when the Brexit transition period ended. Amsterdam overtook London in equities in January 2021.

Responsible for Bloomberg's coverage of high-speed traders and stock exchanges in Europe, producing scoops such as the first big financial market to leave London because of Brexit. I subsequently took over coverage of the region's insurance companies, writing about their efforts to adapt to climate change and the possibility of a disorderly divorce from the EU.I write about how big changes, such as Brexit and Mifid II, make themselves felt in financial markets. For example, I was first to reveal that the ETF market was 70% larger than previously reported thanks to Mifid II. I also worked out how much business the insurers and trading venues were moving to continental Europe to prepare for Brexit.

I covered how the European sovereign-debt crisis wrought havoc on the region's equity markets, connecting the dots between Bloomberg's coverage of the political story and what it did to asset prices. Managed the eight-strong team of reporters, gaining valuable experience of how to work effectively with a team spread across Western Europe.Subsequently set up the market structure team in Europe in the second half of 2014, handling projects from reporters and pursuing my own ideas simultaneously. I came up with ideas for data visualisations for the new team and I executed most of them.

I covered Britain's largest retailers and local governments during my two years at Computer Weekly, breaking the news that Tesco and then BP Retail were standardising their IT systems and business processes globally. In Tesco's case, the project covered 2,000 stores in 14 countries -- a scale that IT consultancy Gartner described as unique.
