Conducted research surrounding the morphologic and anthropogenic impacts on salt marsh development in Fortescue, New Jersey with Daria Nikitina, Ph.D. This innovative research focuses on analyzing sediment layers of the marsh to locate sharp erosional layers of mud which may be indicative of major storm surge events in the Delaware Bay. By analyzing individual sediment layers and piecing together dozens of cross sections, we have been able to estimate the time for salt marsh regrowth after a major storm surge and determine how often these major storms struck the east coast of the United States in the past two thousand years.
