Performing a hands-on technical role alongside a people-management position within the Ombudsman service.As well as day-to-day operations, team management and change implementation, responsible for the performance levels and availability within servers, virtualisation and storage environment including the remotely hosted active-active data centres.Key objectives include;• working on IT strategy relating to technical development• improving process and building a deeper understanding of the key business areas for planning, developing and implementation solutions• improving systems and services offered to the organisation using existing and new technologiesCurrently developing and maintaining EMC and HP 3PAR storage fronted by VPLEX nodes, HP BladeSystems and DL servers running as both traditional physical and virtual hosts, and a VMware estate of 600+ virtual servers.Recent work includes procurement of active-active datacentre hosting service leading on to non-disruptive migration to new hardware platforms for servers and storage. Followed up by implementation of new backup strategy and solution based on EMC Data Domains, removing the need for tape based backup and any daily hands-on intervention at remote data centres.
