Supported Calm's engineering and data science teams as we helped everyone live a happier and healthier life. Privileged to lead this team from 20 engineers to 100 engineers across three business units.Some highlights: increased paid subscribers and revenue by 4.5x, reached 100M+ downloads and 1.5M+ 5-star reviews; took Calm's B2B offering from 0 to 1, now used by 3,000+ employers; major integrations with Apple, Google, and Kaiser Permanente; acquisition of Ripple Health Group to accelerate Calm's health offering.

Founded Stripe's Foundation engineering organization to build the developer tools, data capabilities, and infrastructure to support every developer integrating with Stripe, every engineer building Stripe itself, and ensuring Stripe is a powerful, reliable, performant infrastructure for the businesses who rely on us. Grew team from ~30 to ~250. Member of Stripe's ~15 person senior leadership team.

Led Uber’s Platform Engineering’s people and strategy, growing a small team into a seventy person organization. Our infrastructure ran Uber, and our tools supported Uber’s 2,000+ engineers.The team’s stability wins transformed Friday nights from terrors to happy hours (resource isolation, capacity planning, alert tuning). Our self-service tooling and automation facilitated the transition from dozens of microservices to over 1,000 (from Puppet/Clusto to Docker/Mesos/Aurora). We migrated from our original datacenter to an international presence.

(The Digg Engineering team was acquired by SocialCode.)Founded SocialCode’s San Francisco office, and grew the SF engineering team to 14 engineers. We built new products from scratch (AdOptics dashboard for campaign performance; AdVisor tool for Twitter), and took over development of existing products (MessageOptics social media analytics tool).Designed and implemented much of our infrastructure layer, including our data infrastructure (Kafka, Redshift), continuous deployment (Github, Jenkins, APT), configuration management (Chef), transition to service-oriented architecture (Django, HATEOAS), and cross-product user auth(n|z).

Hired and led team of seven infrastructure and UI/UX engineers who were responsible for the entirety of Digg.com, APIs and mobile applications. Contributed code to most features, and was the primary developer on a handful. Worked mostly in Python, PHP and JavaScript.Represented our engineering team and technology assets to potential acquirers, leading to acquisition by the Washington Post Company (now Graham Holding)'s SocialCode.

Team lead on numerous projects including implementing our sharded Redis cluster, public APIs, MyNews social news feature and overall caching strategy. Worked primarily in Python, using Cassandra, Redis and MySQL.

Worked on Yahoo! Search's Build your Own Search Service (BOSS) product. Worked across stack from Erlang infrastructure to PHP website to frontend CSS.

Implemented and sold TouchDefense iPhone game on iTunes store with my cofounder, Luke Hatcher.
