As a reporter at MPR, I interviewed sources, collected ambient sounds, wrote scripts for broadcasters, and voiced and mixed my own scripts for radio. In just 12 weeks I pursued 10 major stories, some of which I pitched myself to an editor, that were aired on radio, published on MPR’s website, and printed in various news outlets across the state. At MPR, I was often the only reporter in on weekend shifts with my editor. This gave me experience covering breaking news and working unconventional hours. My flexibility, adaptability, and continued pursuit of professional growth helped me learn quickly and contribute to the busy newsroom. This experience also gave me in-depth knowledge of how public radio, newsrooms, and broadcasting functions and the roles of those involved.
