Working closely with the Business Development Director to formulate a commercial strategy, I am responsible for the financial aspects of proposals within the Design and Engineering Business. Our projects are typically £20m-£3bn.

Carrying out consultancy work commissioned by ASLEC (Association of Signals, Lighting and other highway Electrical Contractors) I built Light Core, which is the Lighting Industry’s’ Co2 assessment tool (http://www.highwayelectrical.org.uk/ASLEC/forum.htm). This is a package that allows designers/engineers to compare the Co2 consumption their proposals. I have embedded Co2 proformae to summarised carbon burning for: energy consumption, vehicle/plant use, material selection, waste disposal, logistics and transport. Having worked closely with Sustainability Managers, I am familiar with Defra, the CO2 Association, and have an understanding of the costs incurred from Carbon Credits.

Supporting the PFI bid team who secure £100m-£2bn contracts, I was responsible for developing clear and structured cost plans for their proposals. I translated complex bid documents into specifications and liaised with project professionals, to produce an accurate financial model and meaningful tenders. In order to benchmark our performance I embedded processes that allowed information to flow from our contracts back into the bid; where supply chain costs and performance data was used to form the base of a costing model. Design variations could be incorporated and scenarios modelled side by side allowing clients to balance a quality solution with a competitive affordability envelope. Assessing the impact of risk and indexation I built up project cash flows, summarising costs in nominal terms and assessing the NPV of the project in terms of Capex, Opex and Lifecycle spend. I worked closely with funders developing financing solutions that follow modelling good practice and accountancy law.Throughout my time with the company I worked on; Street Lighting PFI, Highways PFI, Highways TMC and FM projects.
