I was recruited as a Freshman in college to sell home automation and home security equipment door to door over the summer in Dallas, Texas. The 2 most important things I learned from knocking on hundreds of doors a day are:1. If you are observant, conversation will be natural. Quickly look at what the customer is wearing or what their house looks like and compliment them at least if there is nothing specific to say. In sales, customers must perceive this dynamic as a friendship so that the homeowner will respect the seller and listen with full attention.2. Sales, as with most things, is a numbers game. I expected a sale every hundred doors I knocked on. This philosophy teaches me to never give up no matter what I attempt to do. Eventually, I will break through and manifest my dreams.
