The beautiful thing about working in parks is that no two days are identical. We are given the opportunity each day to rise to the occasion and meet the varied needs of our visitors, volunteers, and colleagues. In my 15 years in this field I have had the great pleasure of honing my skills through the pursuit of many endeavors. I have planned and executed special events that have had over 1,200 attendees, trained raptors and given on-glove programs to thousands of visitors, performed trail maintenance and built park infrastructure, planned and built exhibits, led dozens of volunteer groups and service projects, and supervised four naturalist staff. My goal is to get people to form a connection with the outdoors, through the use of dialogic interpretation. I firmly believe that we need to use our visitors inherent curiosity as our guide for relaying information. Working in a park setting means that you often wear a lot of different hats which is a situation I thrive in. I enjoy learning new skills that will better serve the mission and will improve the experience of our visitors. I may not know exactly what I am facing, but I know that I am always learning. My life up until now has been a classroom, I keep learning more about the topics I love and more about myself. We are forever students especially in the woods.
