Growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, I developed a deep love and respect for nature. I spent many days rambling through the woods, scrambling across rocks, climbing trees, and creating my own adventures informed by the landscape I knew as home. It wasn’t until a bit later in my life, in college, when I became aware of just how indispensable nature, and its conservation, is to us as a species. This realization, coupled with a desire to find a career which would allow me to help others or the environment, led me to study Sustainable Development. My studies not only further revealed to me the strain that we put on our planet, but the inherent flaws and inequitable nature of many of the systems that govern us. Since graduation, I have gravitated towards conservation, ecological restoration, volunteer programming, and trail/park maintenance. My aim is to continue pursuing a career in one or more of these areas. I love working outdoors, contributing to a healthier planet, and hopefully inspiring others to do the same.
