Promotion to a Director position focusing on Finance and Business Development.

After 18 months at Horizonscan, I was promoted to be General Manager so that I could lead the business forward. As part of this I undertook an MBA and developed Horizonscan's 5 Year Business Plan. This role involves managing Horizonscan's key multi-national clients and leading the delivery of our ambitious growth strategy. I have grown Horizonscan's turnover and Post-Tax Profit year-on-year, whilst also expanding the Horizonscan team in a sustainable way. I now have full financial and operational oversight for the company, and report monthly to the Board. My role now encompasses the full day-to-day running and strategic planning for Horizonscan.

I started working for Horizonscan after my time in politics. In my first role with Horizonscan I was able to utilise my knowledge of communications and Emergency Planning. My role involved the following areas:- Negotiating contracts with new clients, both UK and International.- Delivering Crisis Training and Business Continuity consultancy to clients around the world.- Monitoring company cash flow and sales invoices.- Managing the Horizonscan office team.- Organising annual client work programmes.

Elected to represent Northwood ward in Ramsgate on Thanet District Council. Duties include attending Council meetings, dealing with casework from residents, and running campaigns to improve the community.

I was elected in 2013 with an 11% swing from the 2009 results to represent the Margate and Cliftonville County Division. My key areas of focus were Primary School provision and Emergency Planning in Kent. I sat on the Governance and Audit Committee for 4 years, the Education Cabinet Committee for 3 years and the Electoral Arrangements Committee for 1 year.

I was selected by the South Thanet Labour Party to be their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for MP in 2015. The two other main candidates for the seat were Nigel Farage (UKIP) and Craig Mackinlay (Conservative). During the campaign, I gave dozens of media interviews and took part in live debates with both of the other main candidates. Although unsuccessful in the election, the Labour vote held up in South Thanet thereby denying UKIP the seat. The campaign overall attracted over £50,000 in donations and had over 500 activists volunteer to help.

I was elected in 2011 with a 15% swing from the 2007 results to represent Dane Valley ward in Margate. My key focus was on case work and helping local residents. I sat on the Governance and Audit Committee for 4 years, the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for 2 years and the Standards Committee for 1 year.

I was chosen by my fellow Councillors/Charter Trustees to be the Town Mayor of Margate for 2012-13. The Town Mayor is the civic representative for Margate and attends all formal events associated with the town. During the year, I attended dozens of charity and promotional events for Margate and ensured that Margate stayed in the news at an exciting stage in its redevelopment.

After previously taking on the role of Parliamentary Assistant in 2007-8, I was asked to return to work as a part time Administrative Assistant for Mary in 2012-13 while also being involved in East Kent politics. This role was mainly focused on dealing with case work and online campaigning, but also included aspects of my former role around research and reviewing external communication.

I led a team of staff organising travel for thousands of students to and from airports, enabling them to study English in East Kent. This involved close liaison with regional transport companies and dealing with foreign agents and the Home Office. During busy times, I managed up to twenty staff to ensure that students entered the UK and arrived at the homes of their host families.

I worked for Mary Honeyball MEP in both her London and Brussels offices as a Parliamentary Assistant. My main duties included speech writing, casework, Committee work, diary planning and meeting different delegations.
