I am currently a Genetics PhD candidate at Kansas State University. I completed my undergraduate education majoring in Animal Sciences and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Oklahoma State University. I was briefly a Bioinformatics Ph.D. student at the University of Missouri before moving to Kansas State University. I completed my Masters in Genetics and received a Masters certificate in Statistics. My Masters research included work in modeling adaptability, selecting for phenotypic stability, and determining the extent of G×E effects. Other duties included developing pipelines/scripts for common tasks in the lab, mentoring undergraduate students for semesterly research projects, facilitating workshops in data manipulation, analysis, and visualization using the R and Python programming languages, facilitating workshops in the use of our university's high-performance computing cluster, and assisting in weekly recitation sessions for ASI 500 - Genetics and ASI 510 - Principles of Animal Breeding courses.My current position as a Genetics Fellow and Ph.D. candidate includes research modeling differential miRNA expression, modeling sire conception for beef sires utilized in dairy production, and finding metrics that might be predictive of SCR. Other responsibilities include teaching ASI 510 - Principles of Animal Breeding as the principal instructor, assisting others in data management and manipulation, and developing pipelines and scripts for common lab procedures.
