I am a BACP registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and I provide therapy sessions for adults. I give support for a wide range of issues including anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, self-doubt, family conflict, career transition and workplace stress.My clients are offered an understanding and non-judgemental space where they can find a short-term solutions-based approach to specific problems, or a longer-term process of exploration seeking deeper understanding of the self. The length and depth of the work is guided by the wishes of the client, with an understanding that the goals of therapy can shift as the process evolves.I was trained in the modality of Transactional Analysis. Therapists in this field have the skills to work at psychotherapeutic depth, looking into every aspect of a client’s life to find understanding of the patterns that shape their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, but will always shape this work towards a goal of eliciting change to address the issue with which the client is seeking help. Writing under the name William Sutcliffe, over a period of 25 years I published 13 novels (Bloomsbury, Penguin and Simon+Schuster) and worked on numerous screenplays. On turning fifty, I decided to change the course of my life, and began to retrain as a psychotherapist. I now run a private practice in Edinburgh and no longer write fiction. My years as a writer gave me a deep personal understanding of the struggles and challenges of the creative process, which is now my area of special interest as a therapist.I also offer online sessions, to clients based anywhere.
