My time in this role with Cybrary ticked all these boxes and more, but change can be hard for those involved. Change management requires a thorough understanding of why things have been done the way they are before you make a change. Armed with the above, I took on an agile transformation to not only equip the team members for their best work, but to identify and improve the core outcomes of the Content Team - quality and quantity. Change without accountability or measurement is lacking; so we identified a suite of metrics to gauge our investments and progress towards process improvement - learner ratings and reviews, hours of content output, NPS, and especially eNPS.

In order to keep up with the industry, learners need the highest quality, up-to-date content they can get, as fast as they can get it. The Cybrary platform has helped to train millions of cybersecurity professionals by prioritizing these efforts. I was able to build a data-driven, quantitative QA process that sped up on time delivery of content by 30% compared to the subjective process previously used. This quantitative process gave us the data we needed to better train out QA engineers and instructors, resulting in a 30% increase in the amount of content produced. These changes also allowed us to improve instructor satisfaction and reduce instructor drop-out rates by 10%. When you put all of that together, the net outcome is many more millions of people trained to help defend cyberspace.

Cybrary has always believed that training is only one part of the support learners need to succeed, mentoring is critical as well. It was this mentor program that got me personally hooked on the Cybrary platform. I was humbled and honored to come full circle and serve this community as on of their Chief Mentors. This allowed me to communicate daily with learners and users of the system, but also to lead and train the 150 mentors volunteering to help us with this work.Interactions with learners and mentors often happened one-on-one, but also in much larger contexts. I was privileged to host multiple community webinars reaching more than 1,000 simultaneous users each time we held an event. Coaching and giving back to the industry in this role was truly one of the highlights of my professional career.

IT and cybersecurity for SMBs in highly regulated industries are challenging to master. Teams are often small and budgets even smaller. Staff get to wear many hats, cross-skill and upskill often, and perform job duties at various altitudes from boots-on-the-ground to writing company policies. I wouldn't trace my time in the space for anything. We had the chance to maintain 99.99% infrastructure uptime due to our architecture decisions for a geographically disbursed organization. We maximized the impact of our $1M budget well beyond what many internal teams thought possible. We even reduced the total cost of ownership of all IT systems by 25% by effectively aligning to the organization's goals. The work in this space can be challenging, but it is also equally rewarding.
