Willem is a Principal Power Economist in PB Africa and has 29 years experience in the power industry of which fourteen years has been in the consulting industry. In the consulting industry he has mainly focused on power plant feasibility studies, power system expansion planning studies, demand forecasting, power pricing studies and training on power economics on a wide range of projects across a number of countries. During this time he has been responsible for evaluation of integrated generation, transmission and distribution project economics, from a traditional utility approach and a competitive environment. He has performed studies in countries across Africa including: South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana, Malawi, Kenya, Mauritius, Swaziland, Uganda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sudan and Djibouti.He also has seven years experience in Eskom power system planning, as a generation specialist focusing on generation expansion planning, costing and pricing and generator reliability analysis. He has had in-depth experience in developing software that was used for daily and real time energy scheduling in a pool environment. His specialisation includes development of power system planning software for long term planning, production costing and energy scheduling.

He also has seven years experience in Eskom power system planning, as a generation specialist focusing on generation expansion planning, costing and pricing and generator reliability analysis. He has had in-depth experience in developing software that was used for daily and real time energy scheduling in a pool environment. His specialisation includes development of power system planning software for long term planning, production costing and energy scheduling.
