    Midlands 103's average quarter hour listenership is now 70% higher than when I was appointed in charge of Programming. Despite increased marketplace competition and diminishing financial resources, we have grown or preserved our audience in all key metrics. I am also responsible for programming strategy at Channel 103 in Jersey and Island FM in Guernsey, the UK's most successful radio stations when measured by market share. We have won several PPI Radio Awards for the flagship 'Midlands Today Show', which I present, and I am the only two-time winner of the Road Safety Authority's Leading Lights Award.

I established a popular lunchtime news programme - a brand new format for the area - and formulated styleguides and policies for the news department. It was here that I developed training skills in the guidance of junior journalists. My tenure ended when I was offered a more senior post at Midlands 103.

    From a junior freelancer to lead presenter, it was at CKR FM that I learned many of the disciplines that stand to me today. My work concentrated on news and current affairs generation, whether attending council meetings, court sittings or press conferences, to later interviewing the President, Taoiseach and senior Ministers. I was involved in a part time capacity through college since 1999 and my full time employment began immediately upon graduation in May 2002. I was promoted to Head of News, Sport and Current Affairs within six months, becoming the youngest Irish person to ever hold such a post, a distinction that continues to this day. At 21 years of age, I am still the youngest person to have fronted a flagship programme on local radio.
