Why Career Transition? ||Working in a retirement setting through the pandemic was the most challenging and rewarding phase of my professional life. As access to the residence was restricted, our team was forced to take on new roles, and solve unique problems that were previously outsourced. Personnel shrunk, and I was responsible for supporting isolated, under-stimulated, and increasingly anxious seniors. Through perseverance and flexibility, much was retrofitted and reimagined until new routines were deemed safe and effective. The process was as fulfilling as it was emotionally draining, imparting great pride and also a desire to move forward in a new industry.Why Web Development? ||When our doors closed in the pandemic, I assumed the title of IT Liaison. With technicians barred from entry, I was tasked with assessing and addressing computer issues and calling for assistance when the problem exceeded my scope. I have always enjoyed building and/or fixing things, and it was rewarding to solve technical troubles for those in need. As more of my time was devoted to calls with IT professionals, one new friend suggested I investigate Web Development. His advice was sound, and I gravitated towards code because it allowed me to activate my problem-solving skills and craft in a digital landscape where the boundaries are less tangible and the possibilities feel vast. Why me? ||I bring a background of managing people, and genuinely enjoy collaboration. Collective competitiveness drives me, and I get great joy from achieving alongside others. I have developed plenty of patience and determination, as is revealed in my work with cognitively and physically challenged clients. In 8 months, I learned JavaScript, SCSS, React, Node, and SQL while working full time. I am confident I can learn my new role and excel once the opportunity is offered.
