Despite working at top marketing agencies and winning numerous industry awards, I felt like there was a sense of purpose missing in my life. Finding new ways to sell things flexed my creative muscles but it felt hollow when so much in the world needed fixing. Little did I know that a chance reunion with a former colleague in 2015 would give me the opportunity to employ these skills in a very different direction. While I'd been dabbling in screenwriting, Guy had started working with groups of cleantech entrepreneurs. He'd realised that the biggest challenge they faced was getting people - potential partners, customers, investors, funders, employees and journalists - to care about their innovations. The answer we came up with was a simple and timeless one. Storytelling. Not everyone understands marketing or branding but everyone has a favourite story. And if you have a favourite story you can learn how to tell a stronger story about your good idea. We're all hardwired to respond to a good story. Stories are how we've shared ideas for hundreds of thousands of generations. And every great story brings an audience on a journey of change. On the spot we created the first version of the Lean Story Canvas - it's still one of our main consultancy and coaching tools today. We give it away for free on our website so as many people as possible can get their good ideas the attention they deserve. Since then as Stronger Stories we've sought to democratise storytelling power for fairer and faster change. It's a journey that has seen me speak at national and international sustainability and innovation conferences. We've created a framework for using stories to change narratives, the biggest lever for accelerating transformation in sectors and societies. With a small but mighty team of story rebels, we built an online Stronger Story School that distils everything we've learnt along the way into less time than it takes to watch a movie.But most importantly it's allowed me to work with thousands of people who are making a difference every day.
