My entire professional experience centers around issues concerning building science especially related to indoor air quality including radon. I am active on development of professional standards of practice for radon measurement, mitigation, and quality assurance. My base of operation is the University of Minnesota where I am a Professor Emeritus responsible for three decades directing a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Radon Training Center as well as conducting applied research and policy development.My professional goal is to prevent lung cancer deaths associated with indoor radon exposure and to improve the environmental health of building occupants.Specialties: Research, training, international policy development, and professional association leadership.

Lead a EPA Regional Indoor Air Quality Training Center. Authored and co-authored 125 indoor air quality proposals with combined budgets of $5.5 million and managed research and training projects of regional and national significance.Generated over $5 million in program income through course registrations.Developed, coordinated, and taught over 900 courses in 29 states and provinces including Radon Contractor Proficiency Program measurement, mitigation and new construction courses, Reducing Radon in Schools, School Indoor Air Quality AirSmart (an interactive course on residential indoor quality), Health Care Facility Construction Management for Indoor Air Quality, Indoor Air Quality for Public Officials, Carbon Monoxide Updates for Professionals courses.
