William B. Harvey holds positions as Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Educational Innovation and Improvement at the University of Maryland and Distinguished Scholar at the American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity in Washington, DC. He returned to his position at AAAED after serving as the Rector (CEO) at Danubius International University in Galati, Romania where he was the first African American to ever lead a European institution of higher learning.Earlier in his career, he held tenured full professor positions at the University of Virginia, North Carolina State University, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and North Carolina A&T State University, with a research focus on the cultural and social factors that affect underserved populations, particularly in college and university settings.His administrative positions have included appointments as Provost/Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Rosemont College; Vice President for Diversity and Equity at the University of Virginia; Vice President and Director of the Center for Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity at the American Council on Education; Deputy Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; and Dean of the School of Education at both the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and North Carolina A&T State University. He also served as Chief Executive Officer at the International Reading Association.Founding President of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, and the former chair of the Education Advisory Committee of NASA, he is a past board member of: the Study of New Scholars project at Harvard University; the Yale-Howard Center on Health Disparities; the Site Support for Schools project at Johns Hopkins University; the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Program at Princeton University; and the National Council for Research on Women. His bachelor's degree is from West Chester University; his master's and doctoral degrees are from Rutgers University, and he received an honorary doctorate from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
